Food has always been about more than what's on the plate. Every dish, every cocktail, and every ingredient reflects the people who created it, the place it comes from, and the experience it's meant to inspire. My job is to capture that story.
I'm Brian Samuels, a Boston-based food photographer specializing in restaurants, cookbooks, editorial publications, and food and beverage brands. Since 2010, I've worked with chefs, restaurants, agencies, and national brands to create photography that is both visually compelling and thoughtfully crafted. Whether I'm photographing a tasting menu, a cookbook recipe, or a national advertising campaign, my goal is always the same: create images that make people want to pull up a chair.
Every project is a collaboration. I work closely with clients to understand their vision, then use light, composition, and styling to showcase each subject in its most authentic and appetizing form. Sometimes the story is about craftsmanship. Sometimes it's about hospitality, nostalgia, or celebration. The strongest images communicate all of that without saying a word.
Over the years, I've partnered with everyone from independent neighborhood restaurants to nationally recognized food brands, collaborating with chefs, art directors, food stylists, and prop stylists to bring creative ideas to life. My work has appeared in The New York Times, Bon Appétit, Boston Magazine, Saveur, CBS Sunday Morning, Thrillist, Edible Boston, Northshore Magazine, and numerous other publications.
